Road & Bridge Construction

NTMWD is spending more than $50 million to help construct and improve approximately 11 miles of county roads and bridges and state roads in Fannin County.

The largest road project is the construction of FM 897 from Highway 82 to FM 1396. At more than six miles in length, this new road will provide access across Bois d’Arc Lake via a 1.3-mile-long bridge.

Approximately 2.3 miles of FM 1396 southeast of County Road 2700 will be impacted by the lake, and traffic in this area will be re-routed to FM 897. More than a dozen county roads and bridges will be constructed, improved or re-routed to ensure ease of navigation around the lake. This work will continue throughout the dam’s construction.

NTMWD will pay Fannin County more than $1.8 million over 10 years due to the impact that increased traffic from development and recreation could have on county roads. Additionally, the District will pay for and construct a Fannin County-owned-and-operated road maintenance facility.

Along with impacting county roads, Bois d’Arc Lake’s construction will impact Fannin County Electric Cooperative’s supply system. NTMWD will coordinate closely with the county to maintain power during construction and improve Fannin County’s high voltage service.
