Bois d’Arc Lake Not Yet Open for Recreational Use

NTMWD will notify the public when the lake is safe to open

Fannin County, TX — May 12, 2021

The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) would like to remind everyone that Bois d’Arc Lake is not yet open for recreation. Completing construction and other conditions such as having a safe level of water must take place before the lake can open for boating, fishing and other recreational activities. Additionally, NTMWD is consulting with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Fannin County Sheriff’s Department to determine the appropriate time. NTMWD will notify the public when Bois d’Arc Lake is ready and safe to open for recreation.

NTMWD began impounding water on April 14, 2021, and how long it takes to fill is dependent upon rainfall in the lake watershed. Using Bois d’Arc Lake for recreation prior to its opening is considered trespassing and law enforcement may be notified.

“We are all excited that Bois d’Arc Lake is filling with water and the opening of the lake is in sight, but we need to be patient,” said Jennifer Stanley, Lake Operations Manager for NTMWD. “Much work remains to be completed before it is safe to open,” she added.

Bois d’Arc Lake is located northeast of Bonham in Fannin County. Find more information on the lake at BoisdArcLake.org.
