The North Texas Municipal Water District is wrapping up work on the first new major reservoir in Texas in nearly 30 years. As a result of the construction of the 16,641-acre Bois d’Arc Lake, the water district started a concurrent project to create a new forest of 6.3 million trees in the area to help offset the loss of local natural habitat.

Fannin County, Texas -- Representatives of North Texas Water District (NTMWD) and Fannin County officials met Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Bonham City Hall for a work session to discuss the Bois d'Arc Lake Shoreline Management Plan that is currently being developed, as well as a Watershed Protection Plan that will be implemented later to protect water quality for the reservoir.
The solution to one of North Texas' biggest problems could be in the form of the small town of Bonham located about an hour and a half northeast of the heart of the metroplex.
