Bois d’Arc Lake Now Open for Recreation

Recent rainfall totals allow sufficient lake levels for public access

WYLIE, TX – Apr. 17, 2024 — The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) officially opened Bois d’Arc Lake for public access today. Bois d’Arc Lake is located northeast of Bonham in Fannin County and is the newest major reservoir in Texas.

Bois d’Arc Lake offers recreational opportunities including boating, fishing, and hunting. NTMWD partners in close collaboration with the Texas Parks and Wildlife and Fannin County Sheriff’s Office to manage recreation at the lake and has taken extensive measures to ensure public safety.

NTMWD constructed three public access areas with boat launch ramps, day-use picnic areas, and restrooms. See below for boat ramp status:

“As we celebrate the opening of Bois d’Arc Lake, we share in the anticipation and excitement this new recreational spot brings. We recognize that public access areas may be crowded in the upcoming weeks, especially during holidays and weekends. Throughout this time, we encourage patience and courtesy to fellow boaters, lake staff, and law enforcement.”

The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) owns and operates the Bois d’Arc Lake to supply drinking water to the growing region. Water delivery began in March 2023.

NTMWD was created in 1951 as a special district of the state. Today, NTMWD is a regional wholesale provider of water, wastewater, and solid waste disposal services with a service territory covering 2,200 square miles. NTMWD serves 2.2 million people with drinking water, 1.5 million with wastewater collection and treatment, and 966,000 with waste management services.
